| Electricity Can Kill
Electricity is potentially hazardous and
should be treated with the utmost of care. Electricity has the potential to kill.
Remember:-
Always work under the supervision of a
qualified adult
Do not experiment with mains electrical
equipment
Only use electrical equipment that is
correctly safety tagged to show that it has been tested
Never mix water with electricity - including
water on wet hands
Use correctly insulated tools and work on an
insulated bench top (not a metal one)
Electrical Fires
Only tackle a fire if:-
you think it is small enough to put out -
don't overestimate the power of even a large extinguisher
there is no personal danger
you have raised the alarm
In College, or if the fire is too large:-
quickly and quietly leave the room
shut the door behind you to prevent the
spread of fire, smoke, fumes and gases
Types of Fire Extinguisher
Do not use
Do use
Carbon Dioxide - smothers the fire in inert
gas and starves it of oxygen
Dry Powder - good on confined fires but
should be avoided on larger fires
Fire Blanket - made from aluminiumised glass
fibre
Sand - this can spread liquids that are on
fires
Always check an extinguisher is full before
you tackle a fire. Make sure that you have raised the alarm and test fired the
extinguisher before attacking the base of the blaze in a sweeping fashion. |
